
German-born cellist of Peruvian-Uruguayan descent Claudio Bohórquez is among the most sought-after musicians of his generation. He first gained international recognition with major competition successes, including First Prize at the Geneva International Music Competition and top distinctions at the Tchaikovsky Youth Competition and the Rostropovich Competition. A further milestone in his early career was his distinction at the Pablo Casals Competition of the Kronberg Academy, where he was awarded the Grand Prix and entrusted with Pablo Casals’ Goffriller cello.
Bohórquez has performed with leading orchestras worldwide, including Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, as well as Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic and Philadelphia Orchestra. He is a frequent guest at major international festivals such as Schleswig-Holstein, Rheingau, Dresden and the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival, and has appeared at Tanglewood, Ravinia, Aspen and the Hollywood Bowl.
His extensive discog raphy includes recordings for Deutsche Grammophon, Warner Classics and Alpha, among others, and he has also contributed to film projects. Alongside his performing career, he is Professor at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin. He performs on a cello by G.B. Rogeri.
