Concert: LAB51

Founded in 2016 and having won the First Prize at the John Cage Competition in Halberstadt, LAB51 (soprano Johanna Vargas and pianist Magdalena Cerezo) has gained an international reputation for its unique way of merging classical voice and piano with multimedia and performance art. The duo has performed at festivals such as the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music, ECLAT and the Festival de Royaumont, undertaken an artistic residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, and has been broadcast on platforms such as Deutschlandfunk, NDR, Radio France and RTVE, among others.

For their concert as part of the 17th International Pharos Contemporary Music Festival, LAB51 will present three iconic works by Bernhard Lang, Georges Aperghis and György Ligeti, promising a unique performance, in which hypnotic electronics, surreal physical theatre and breathtaking vocal acrobatics collide, moving exhilaratingly between the haunting, the absurd and the outrageously theatrical.
