Concert: Pérgamo Ensemble & Lidia Vinyes-Curtis (mezzo-soprano)

One of Spain’s most sought-after period ensembles, Pérgamo Ensemble, joins forces with the prominent Spanish mezzo-soprano Lidia Vinyes-Curtis in a unique programme that reveals the magnificence of Spanish Baroque.

Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Gijón Early Music Competition and recipient of the Sello FestClásica 2025, Pérgamo Ensemble has built its identity around the rediscovery of neglected works from Europe’s musical heritage alongside music by some of the most celebrated composers of the 17th and 18th centuries. Its work has brought collaborations with leading early-music figures and appearances at major festivals including Santander, Torroella de Montgrí and Prague’s Zelenka Festival.

Lidia Vinyes-Curtis has built an unusually wide-ranging international career, from Bach (with Helmut Rilling and Sigiswald Kuijken) to Beethoven (under Gustavo Dudamel), major operatic appearances at Teatro Real Madrid, Opéra de Lyon and Gran Teatre del Liceu, and regular collaborations with Jordi Savall in medieval repertoire.

For their Cyprus debut, Pérgamo Ensemble and Lidia Vinyes-Curtis will bring to life a remarkable body of music written in Spain during the 18th century, including works rediscovered by the ensemble itself, some scarcely heard since their composition. Alongside music by Scarlatti, Facco and Martín i Coll, the concert will revive works by José de Torres and José de Nebra that survived the devastating fire of Madrid’s Royal Alcázar in 1734. This promises to be a fascinating aural blend, opening a window onto the richness and transformation of Spanish music at the end of the Baroque.
