
Anton Sorokow is Professor and Head of the Fritz Kreisler Institute at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Prize-winner of several international competitions, he received First Prize and a Special Prize at the Beethoven Competition, as well as First Prizes at the Stefanie Hohl Competition in Vienna and the Romano Romanini Competition in Brescia.
As a soloist and concertmaster, he has collaborated with leading orchestras including the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra London, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, as well as the Berlin and Moscow Symphony Orchestras, working with conductors such as Wolfgang Sawallisch, Georges Prêtre, Philippe Jordan, Myung-Whun Chung, Kent Nagano, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Mstislav Rostropovich, Franz Welser-Möst and Fabio Luisi. From 2005 to 2025, he served as Principal Concertmaster of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. His artistic development was influenced by his encounter with Isaac Stern.
His recordings include major violin concertos and Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. He is active as a chamber musician and pedagogue, giving international masterclasses and serving on competition juries. He performs on a 1741 violin by Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù, “Ex Carrodus”, from the collection of the Austrian National Bank.
