
British-Armenian soprano Anush Hovhannisyan began her career at the Jette Parker Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. She has established herself as a compelling interpreter of emotionally complex repertoire, performing leading roles with distinguished opera houses and orchestras across Europe for over a decade. Her performances have been praised for their incisive musical and dramatic insight, expressive nuance, and commanding theatrical presence.
She was nominated for the International Opera Awards, selected by The Times as “The Face to Watch in Opera 2020” and by Der Theaterverlag as one of the outstanding artists in 2020. Her debut with Scottish Opera as Violetta in La Traviata saw The Sunday Times acclaiming “a ‘star is born’ moment”.
Anush inhabited some of the most iconic soprano roles to the highest acclaim including Violetta in La Traviata, Mimi & Musetta in La bohème, Tatjana in Eugene Onegin, Hélène in Les vêpres siciliennes, Donna Anna & Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, the tile roles of Maria Stuarda and Kat’a Kabanova, and Lisa in Queen of Spades. She recorded with Decca and Opus Arte and sang on live broadcasts for BBC Radio 3 at Proms and the Big Chamber Day.
Anush is the Ambassador of Opera studies at her Alma Mater, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Founder of the Armenia Opera Workshop, building bridges between the international opera industry and the regional talent.
