Gareth Lubbe

Gareth Lubbe has appeared as soloist with orchestras such as the Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin and the Munich Chamber Orchestra amongst others. As a chamber musician he frequently shares the stage with artists such as Boris Brovtsyn, Janine Jansen, Mischa Maisky and Pinchas Zukerman, in venues like Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic, Wigmore Hall, and Suntory Hall.

Gareth’s musical endeavours extend beyond the traditional boundaries of playing an instrument. He is also a polyphonic singer and incorporates this skill into his instrumental work. He has travelled the world performing and teaching the art of overtone singing. He has given workshops for institutes such as the Julliard School and groups like the St.Thomas Choir, sharing this centuries-old technique with eager learners. Numerous works have been written for his voice.

Lubbe’s discography includes albums for Naxos, Signum, and BIS. His collaboration with the composer and trombonist Nils Wogram led to the “best instrumental album of the year” award from the German Jazz Prize 2022.
