PIETRO DE MARIA

A precocious talent, Venice-born pianist Pietro De Maria won the First Prize at the Alfred Cortot International Piano Competition in Milan at the age of thirteen. After receiving the Critics’ Prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1990, he went on to secure First Prize at several other major international piano competitions, including the Dino Ciani – Teatro alla Scala Competition in Milan (1990), the Géza Anda Competition in Zurich (1994), and the Mendelssohn Award in Hamburg (1997).

An established presence on the international concert stage, he has appeared as soloist with leading orchestras across Europe and internationally, collaborating with conductors such as Roberto Abbado, Gary Bertini, Myung-Whun Chung, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Daniele Gatti, Alan Gilbert, Marek Janowski, Ton Koopman, and Sándor Végh.

De Maria’s repertoire spans from Bach to contemporary composers, and he is the first Italian pianist to have presented Chopin’s complete piano works in a cycle of six public concerts. His expansive discography has received critical acclaim from leading international publications such as Diapason, MusicWeb International and Pianiste.

Pietro De Maria is an Academician of Santa Cecilia and serves on the faculty of the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and the Academy of Music in Pinerolo.
