
Described by Gramophone as “a most imaginative and individual artist,” Sharon Kam is internationally recognised as one of the leading clarinettists of her generation. She first came to prominence following her orchestral debut with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta and her First Prize at the ARD International Music Competition.
Kam has performed with many of the world’s foremost orchestras, including Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra under Kurt Masur, Berlin Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Czech Philharmonic and Tokyo Philharmonic, as well as with Academy of St Martin in the Fields and Camerata Salzburg. She appears regularly at major festivals such as Verbier, Rheingau, Edinburgh and the Schubertiade.
A distinguished chamber musician, she is also a leading advocate of contemporary music, having premiered works by Krzysztof Penderecki, Herbert Willi, Peter Ruzicka and others, and working closely with composers such as Brett Dean and Thomas Larcher.
Her extensive discography has received major international awards, including the Diapason d’Or, Echo and Opus Klassik. Since 2022, she has been Professor of Clarinet at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover.
